Sarah Jenkins, an American, decided to share photos of her cats Rosie, aged two, and her one-year-old daughter Poppy on social media after being told by friends that her cats looked odd and unfriendly. The remarkable felines, with eyes reminiscent of David Bowie’s, have gained a massive following of over 30,000 followers on their very own Instagram account. Sarah, a teacher, explained that she created the cats’ social media presence in response to comments about their unusual appearance. Despite facing negative remarks, she believes that showcasing the cats’ loving nature can challenge stereotypes associated with Sphynx cats and their unique looks. Despite feeling hesitant due to negative comments, Sarah continues to share their story to show the world the true beauty and kindness of her feline family members.
Rosie and Poppy have pink, hairless skin and heterochromia, with one yellow eye and one blue eye. Sarah, who has had various breeds of cats in the past, believes Sphynx cats are the most affectionate and loving she has ever owned. “Sphynx cats are often called ‘Velcro cats’,” Sarah explained. “They are incredibly loving and always want to be near their humans.” She added, “I can’t speak for other Sphynx owners, but Rosie and Poppy take it to the next level. They are more affectionate than any other cat I’ve had. They even try to perch on my shoulder like a parrot just to stay as close to me as possible.”
Sarah, who works as an educator, shared that she decided to launch a social media account for her cats after receiving comments about how unique and intimidating they looked.
Sarah, who has experience with various cat breeds, finds Sphynx cats to be the most loving and affectionate. She mentions that heterochromia, a condition where eyes are different colors, is rare but can occur in cats, dogs, and even humans. Typically seen in white-furred cats, Poppy and Rosie, who are considered ‘pink’ in color, would have white fur if they had any. Their unique eye colors add to their special charm.
