Two cats reunited after years of wandering outside and now they are inseparable.
Murray and LB: The Feline Rescue
Two senior cats, Lonesome Boy (LB) and Murray, spent most of their days outdoors in various parts of the town. Kind-hearted residents of South Bend, Indiana came across them on different occasions.
LB, who appeared frail and petrified of humans, was discovered one day in a neighborhood. Suffering from arthritis and bearing metal shards in his legs from his time as a stray, he was in a bad state. The Meow Mission took him in, providing him with care and support as he slowly but steadily began to heal.
It didn’t take long for them to realize that LB’s tough exterior was just a front, and deep down, he was a gentle soul yearning for affection. LB enjoyed the company of other cats and kittens, and having them around helped him to open up and show his true self.
The Mission of Meows
LB came around and chose to trust. With the loudest purr, he came to enjoy attention from his human friends.
“It took us months and months to earn his trust. He has turned into one of the most affectionate cats you could ever encounter,” Jodi Aker, the president of The Meow Mission, shared with Love Meow.
LB began learning to trust through The Meow Mission. Coming to the rescue was Murray, the oldest of all the cats. “Murray was abandoned by his owners who moved away, and he wandered the neighborhood for years,” Jodi revealed. Despite enduring harsh weather conditions, Murray was eventually saved by a compassionate woman who found him at a pizza place. He was undernourished, just skin and bones, and covered in filth with mouth sores, broken teeth, and infections. “Yet, Murray purred and nuzzled for affection from the moment we met him.”
Murray was discovered as an elderly stray cat by The Meow Mission. Despite the initial grim outlook, Murray never gave up. With the help of volunteers, he slowly began to flourish and show his amazing spirit and affectionate nature. It was nothing short of a miracle when Murray recovered and became strong enough to undergo a full dental treatment, greatly improving his quality of life.
He may have been a bit rough around the edges, but he had a lot of love to give.
The Kitty Mission
The rescue organization recently moved into a much larger space, and LB and Murray were given a huge room complete with a cozy sectional sofa and cat steps, thanks to their generous supporters.
Once LB mustered up the courage to climb onto the sofa, he and Murray immediately bonded. They began spending lots of time snuggled up next to each other, even though there was plenty of space on the sofa to relax.
After moving into a spacious room, they quickly became each other’s cuddle companions. Their bond grew stronger over time, becoming an inseparable pair who constantly cuddle and use each other as pillows. LB has embraced the role of being Murray’s personal groomer, often found holding him still with his paws wrapped around Murray while grooming him from head to toe. As a result, Murray’s fur has never been softer than it is now.

Murray always looks out for LB and will defend him if another cat tries to start a fight.

Having roamed the streets and fended for themselves for many years, the two senior cats can now happily embrace their retirement in each other’s company, lounging together with their loyal companion by their side every day.
